Balance and Fall Prevention

Balance and Fall Prevention

More than one-third of the population age 65 and older fall each year. Those who fall once, are 2 to 3 times more likely to fall again, this according to The Centers for Disease Control & Prevention and The Administration on Aging. Older adults value their independence and a fall can significantly limit their ability to remain self-sufficient. The consequences of a fall are devastating and result in significant disability, fear of future falls, decreased mobility, loss of independence and a reduced quality of life.

The good news is that the majority of falls are preventable. The staff at Living Well Therapy have specialized training to help you stay safely on your feet and independent with your mobility. Falls are caused by a multitude of factors, some of them include:

  • Strength and flexibility
  • Vision
  • Home Environment
  • Vestibular or inner ear problems
  • Blood pressure
  • Sensation in your feet & lower legs
  • Balance
  • Safety awareness
  • Proper fit and use of assistive devices such as walkers, canes and grab bars
  • Other contributing issues

We have the training and experience to perform an evaluation to determine your individual risk factors, then create an individualized treatment approach to restore your safety, regain your confidence and keep you safely on your feet. Finally, we will educate you in an individualized program giving you the tools to stay strong, balanced and safe with your mobility.
