Orthopedic and Post-Surgical Care

Orthopedic and Post-Surgical Care

The therapists at Living Well Therapy are all trained to treat disorders of the musculoskeletal system, or orthopedics. This would include individually based therapy treatment to address injuries involving muscles, bones, joints, ligaments, tendons and nerves.
Common orthopedic injuries include:

  • Rotator cuff strains or tears
  • Frozen shoulder
  • Tennis elbow
  • Tendonitis
  • Thoracic outlet syndrome
  • Sciatica
  • Bursitis
  • Hip, knee and ankle sprains, strains and ligamentous tears
  • Pre and post-surgical care for the above
  • Therapy following joint replacement
  • Multiple other conditions

Our treatment approach includes:

Manual Therapy – is the artful and specific hands on approach to moving and stretching joints of both the spine and extremities. It also includes a hands on approach to skillfully stretching fascia, muscles and ligaments, all to restore proper, pain free movement patterns.

Exercise – specific exercise will be applied to your individual condition to assist you in developing the strength and flexibility required to restore proper posture and pain free movement.

Modalities – the use of electrical stimulation, ultrasound or simple ice and heat can be beneficial in reducing your pain. This allows you to start to restore a more normal movement pattern, something that can’t be done when movement hurts.

Education – Your individual treatment program will be designed not to create dependency, but to initially help reduce your pain, get you moving again and eventually give you the tools to keep your injury from re-occurring.
The treatment approach for orthopedics includes working closely with your physician. Sometimes your physician will have a specific protocol that they want you to follow due to their specific surgery or their knowledge of your injury process. In this case, we guide you through your therapeutic healing protocol, updating your physician along the way.
